Eye For Film >> Movies >> A Hijacking (2012) DVD Review
The five featurettes that come with Arrow Films' release of a Hijacking, may only be short - running at between two and three minutes each - but they are relevant and pack a punch. They reveal how writer/director Tobias Lindholm was able to help his cast create something authentic by shooting the film on a boat in similarly dangerous waters to where the craft the fiilm is based on was taken by pirates. The boat they use - the MV Rozen, was herself once hijacked and the crew who manned her and took part as extras in the film, had first-person experience of being hijacked.
Among the gems of the behind-the-scenes footage here, is actor Rolland Moller talking to the ship's engineer Juma Mvita about what happened when he found himself taken hostage. It's easy to see why, with such testimony as this to draw on, the final film feels so realistic. Lindholm is seen dotting about giving direction at various points in the footage, sporting a T-shirt with the motto: "Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose." He's not far wrong.
