Read Liam Papworth's film review of Alone Across The PacificAlone Across The Pacific is a re-release as part of the Masters of Cinema series. On the plus side, it has been given a new high definition digital transfer and has the English subtitles have been improved from previous versions.
It also comes with a glossy sounding 24-page collectors booklet. It includes a comprehensive essay by Brent Kliewer, who examines the film within the cocntext of Ichikawa's other work. It also includes a brief but informative piece on Ishihara Yujiro
However, the extras on the disc are lacking, just three different versions of the trailer for the film are available. It's a shame they couldn't have come up with a tribute piece to the highly acclaimed and highly celebrated director.
