Read Amber Wilkinson's film review of Another Cinderella StoryThis straight-to-DVD release is competent. The transfer and sound are fine - althought it is highly unlikely that the target audience will be remotely bothered about all that. What will concern them are the extras, and this comes with the usual round of candy-floss light additions.
The Just That Girl pop video does what it says on the tin, while several additional featurettes: Mary: The Cinderella Of The Story, A Popstar Prince: Joey Parker and The Diva Dominique, pick apart three of the main characters in bitesize segments ranging from three to five minutes in length. Here, you can learn gems such as Selena Gomez thinks her co-star Drew Seeley is "dreamy" and Jane Lynch, who plays the step-mum, is great at improvisation. It's all light and fluffy and gives the impression of being a very friendly set to work on.
There is slightly more meat in Mary: Dancing Ever After, though not a lot. This five-minute featurette takes a look at the choreography of the film. It's a shame there wasn't a bit more to this, since there are doubtless thousands of girls out there who would love to be taken through some of the moves in a little more detail so that they could have a go at them at home. The same is true of Tami's Fantastic Fashions, which follows a very similar line to the Passion For Fashion extra on last year's Bratz: The Movie DVD. Here Jessica Parker Kennedy remains in character as Tami and takes us for a walk through her wardrobe, suggesting ways that kids can customise their own clothes. It's light on detail, however, and very heavy on Americanisms - references to vintage shops, rummage sales and the like - which may need some translation from mum and dad for British kids.
Doubtless set to be the most played extra of the lot, however, is Another Cinderella Story Singalong - karaoke versions of three of the songs, complete with words. Sadly, for parents, no earmuffs are provided.
