Sound and picture are fine and dandy on this disc, although the pre-release review copy did have some issues with changes to aspect ratio between the menu and the interview extras.

In terms of quality, the additional features here are well worth a look. The Making Of is bookmarked by title plates indicating the day of the shoot and there is a wealth of onset footage here. We get to see director Werner Herzog's 'ritual' before beginning shooting, plus an altercation with an iguana, the use of decaffinated coffee to darken flood water and Val Kilmer's spot-on Herzog impression - "There's no other Werner," he says.

There are snippets of interview footage in the Making Of, too, which all appear again - in an expanded version - in the interviews segment. There are interviews with Herzog, Nic Cage (Terence), Eva Mendes (Frankie), Tom Bower (Pat), cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger and writer Billy Finkelstein. The contributions from Mendes, Bower and Finkelstein are brief and on the gushy side, but the other three here are very good value and genuinely offer an insight into the way Herzog works.

Zeitlinger talks about the difficulties of shooting a noir in the blazing sunshine and offers observations on Herzog's methods, including the fact that he "creates chaos" to "bring a kick" to certain scenes. Cage meanwhile, talks about the challenges of the film and its existential appeal. Best of all, unsurprisingly, is the interview with Herzog himself, who talks about the problems of laughing out loud and ruining a scene, the "bliss of evil" and why his film is not set in "a landscape of drugs". All in all a neat package that is informative if not exhaustive.
