Carlos The Jackal

For such an epic series dealing with such a major historical figure, Carlos The Jackal is deserving surely of better extra features. As it is we get a short 20 minute 'making of' documentary that is more of a focus on the scene involving Carlos and his taking of hostages at the 1975 Vienna OPEC conference.

There is also a brief four-minute interview with actor Edgar Ramirez, and a more lengthy and informative 20 minute interview with director Olivier Assayas that delves into the background of the production. Surely a special edition will be in the offing before long.

Sound and picture quality are crisp throughout, though the film suffers from limited subtitling options. Given the multinational nature of the languages and accents involved in this film, subtitles that were not just limited to scenes where characters are speaking non-English languages would have been helpful. As a result it can be hard to make sense of certain lines of dialogue delivered in English by some cast members using heavy accents.
