Read Anne-Katrin Titze's film review of Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood RebelDo you get sick of the annoying music DVDs play over and over again whilst you're hunting for the remote? Corman's World eschews the dramatic melodies you might expect and instead works around the problem with a cheap and cheerful jingle that might have come from an Eighties computer game. It's a small thing but nicely done, effectively setting the tone for a film that is as much about low budget fun as the sometimes grandiose vision encapsulated in Corman's work.
There's not much to this DVD, but the film itself is unlikely to disappoint fans and it represents such a diverse collection of interviews and clips that it's hard to imagine what might have been left for special features. What we do get is the trailer, very much a collection of the best bits - if you like B movies, that is. Rubber monsters, scantily clad women and lashings of lurid crimson stage blood get straight to the point. Curiously, there's limited space for the many big name stars contributing to the film, but the makers clearly understand that, when it comes right down to it, it's tentacles rather than talent that fans want to see. Slight, but definitely entertaining.
