Eye For Film >> Movies >> Corpo Celeste (2011) DVD Review
There is one extra on the disc - a substantial 40-minute interview with director Alice Rohrwacher and producer Carlo Cresto-Dina. While the production values are low - they're in an echo-prone room and the levels of the snippets of film intercut with them are set at different sound levels - the content is much better than average.
The questions are searching and Rohrwacher and Cresto-Dina are throughtful in their responses. It's clear Rohrwacher brought her documentary experience to her narrative debut, saying that, although it is fiction, she decided to "look for the story in life, just as I had in the past" and insisting that "reality is more surprising than imagination".
The conversation also considers the nature of life and relgion in southern Italy, the response of the Catholic church to it - perhaps surprisingly it now has a life of its own on the Catholic circuit - and the casting of the central role.
Overall, a solid addition to the disc, although one best watched after you've viewed the main feature.
