Each short comes with its own filmed introduction by Lynch, in which, characteristically, he mixes humour with a certain evasiveness. For example, he explains all the information about bananas in The Darkened Room as being "so we could all, y'know, learn some things, um, as we enjoy the show", while he suggests that the whole idea for Out Yonder congealed once he had come up with the phrase "be's bein'" as a much-repeated modal expression for the two characters.

There is also more than 20 minutes of Lynch's filmed responses to random questions from subscribers to DavidLynch.com. These include his favourite musical theme in a Lynch film, his opinion of Marilyn Manson and Roy Orbison, his thoughts on scriptwriting, digital technology and abstraction, and his love of cappuccino. There are priceless pearls of wisdom to be found here, and they all, appropriately enough, come in as fragmentary a form as the shorts that they accompany.
