Picture and sound quality on this Region 2 DVD are outstanding. Together the 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen picture and 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack provide a superb demo disc.

Alas, with the weakness of the film itself and an appalling lack of extras that's all this disc is.

Carpenter/Russell fans are advised to check out the The Thing DVD instead. The transfer may be good rather than superlative, but the film and extensive supplementary materials are far superior.
