Harry And The Hendersons

Read Gator MacReady's film review of Harry And The HendersonsFilmed in standard widescreen, the 1.85:1 anamorphic picture looks brilliant, with deep blacks, perfect flesh tones and spot-on clarity. The DVD may be a barebones edition but at least Universal went to the trouble of giving us such a good looking picture.
They didn't go out of their way to provide anything other than a plain old stereo sound design, though. Which is fine considering that's the way it was originally recorded. But it could have been better with a Dolby Digital re-mastering. It is a mostly dialogue based comedy, though Harry's heavy footsteps could have sounded brilliant in 5.1
There are zero extras unfortunately, which is weird coz there has to be an old featurette lying around somewhere. Also, I would have appreciated a commentary by William Dear.
Ultimately, I'm just glad to have the film on DVD, finally. I don't know why Universal sat on it for so long (it STILL isn't available in R1), while they released 86 different versions of American Pie, etc. And you will have noticed that it is no longer called Bigfoot And The Hendersons, which I believe is a better title.
The cover art is kinda generic and photo shopped, too. The cinema poster and the teaser poster were really cool, so I'm puzzled as to why those images were not used.
A rather tepid DVD of a great film. Universal should have tried harder, but I am just thankful they released it at all.
