Read Jennie Kermode's film review of Last Chance HarveyLast Chance Harvey contains a number of endearing extra features that chortle along as pleasantly as the film itself does; reeling you in gently and immersing you in their quiet charm.
An Unconventional Love Story: The Making of Last Chance Harvey features a series of on-set interviews with writer/director Joel Hopkins and stars Hoffman and Thompson. They wax lyrical about the script – tailored specifically for them - and the fact that the story unconventionally focuses on older characters dealing with relationships and all the baggage their years have lumbered upon them.
Shall We Walk: Romance Along The Streets Of London is a postcard trip around the various London locations used within the film. Various cast members talk about how they view London and how it is a city changing for the best. Hopkins reveals his desire to create a thoroughly contemporary view of London, as seen through the eyes of someone who has not been there for a while.
The rest of the extras comprise of an Audio Description, trailer and commentary provided by Hopkins, Thompson and Hoffman (though the latter’s segments were unfortunately recorded separately as he had a prior engagement). It would have been nice to hear him interact with his director and co-star – especially as they display undeniable chemistry onscreen and in the fizzing banter they are shown to share in the behind-the-scenes segments. Hopkins and Thompson also display an irresistible camaraderie as they reminisce about the shoot, keeping things light-hearted and informative.
