London: The Modern Babylon

Read Amber Wilkinson's film review of London: The Modern BabylonWith just a trailer and a short six-minute interview with Julien Temple - in the back of a London cab, of course - the extras on this BFI disc are surprisingly light. I wonder if perhaps there is more footage of the regular Londoners talking about their experiences of the city that might have usefully been included here. Nevertheless, it is good to hear Temple's perspective on his work - "film for me is a kind of time travel" and, as you would expect, politics are again never far away. "Riots are a response to invisible violence," he asserts.
There is also a fully illustrated booklet - not available to this reviewer - that features film notes and credits that will no doubt prove fascinating in their own right. The disc features optional hard-of-hearing subtitles.
