Eye For Film >> Movies >> Loot (1970) Blu-Ray Review
Out on Blu-ray at the same time as the film adaptation of earlier Joe Orton play Entertaining Mr Sloane, Loot has split two interviews with it. Leonie Orton talks about how she continued to correspond with her brother after he left home, and shares her impressions of his partner and eventual killer, Kenneth Halliwell. John Lahr talks about the latter part of the playwright's career, the impact that fame had on him, and his unrealised ambitions. Both these pieces stand on their own and contain material never before discussed.
In addition to these interviews, there's a section of the Eamonn Andrews Show on which a curiously well behaved Joe Orton discusses Loot and his arrest for defacing . It's lent social context by the other guests, with additional discussion covering the necessity (or otherwise) or marriage and including a rather disturbing comment on domestic violence which neatly sums up the kind of hypocrisy frequently tgeted in Orton's work.
