Mad City

This region 2 DVD from Warner is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and 5.1 or Dolby Digital, depending on the language. Both sound and picture are fine, if unspectacular. Colours are bright, contrast solid, damage and artefacting minimal to non-existent and sound more than adequate for a film, which doesn't really set out to do anything special aurally, anyway.

Language options - English, French and Italian dialogue tracks; English, French, Italian, Dutch, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Romanian and Bulgarian subtitles - are good but the extras are pathetic.

There is a one screen cast and credits list, and that's it. How "interactive menus" can qualify as a "special feature" is beyond me. A menu that you couldn't interact with - by selecting things from it - seems something of an oxymoron.

An average film and a poor DVD package make Mad City a less than essential purchase.
