The picture and sound are both okay, although the blacks a little murky - but I suspect this is down to the original cinematography and not the transfer.

When you're making a film on a shoestring, you don't have film to waste on deleted scenes or a horde of extra people running around behind you shooting a 'making of' documentary. This means that what you see is more or less what you get with this DVD release.

There is also something very odd going on with the subtitling. Since some of the characters occasionally require subtitles within the body of the film, when you have the subtitles on as well, they overlap them, making a bit of a mish-mash.

The director's statement is the most useful of the extras, a printed version of Bahrani's vision and inspiration for the film - although it could do with being a couple of font sizes larger as it would be hard to make out on smaller television sets. Shame they couldn't have splashed out on a filmed Q&A session with him.

After that there is just the trailer - which presents the film as something much more dramatic than it is and six stills, which are nice in a kind of look at 'em once kind of way.

As with many independent films, the film itself is the thing, not the bells and whistles which accompany it.
