Eye For Film >> Movies >> Mega Time Squad (2018) Blu-Ray Review
Some films find their natural home on Blu-ray. Mega Time Squad is a party film, just the thing to fill up an evening when you and your mates are stuck in the house with nothing in particular to do and you want to have fun. It has an inbuilt cult appeal that means some fans will treasure it. Decades from now, if anybody still has a Blu-ray player that works, it will be brought out to entertain and confuse future generations.
The film itself is accompanied by an audio commentary, a lengthy interview conducted at Frightfest and a couple of trailers. It is imperative that you avoid the trailers until after the film if you don't want to ruin surprises.
For the director of a film about a man who keeps company with himself, Tim van Dammen struggles somewhat when required to produce a 90 minute monologue for the audio commentary. Most people would; it's just a shame that he doesn't seem to have been given much support. There is some interesting stuff here but it's spread thin.
Much more successful is the interview. Van Dammen communicates much better in conversation and Frightfest's Paul McEvoy coaxes some great stories out of him - not least what the film was originally going to be about, an idea he could probably still pitch successfully, albeit to a different market. entertaining and informative, this is the highlight of the special features.
