Moomin – The Complete Series One

Read Anton Bitel's film review of Moomin – The Complete Series OneThis DVD is entirely free of extras – there are just 14 episodes, in their original 4x3 format for television, distributed over two discs. That, however, is not to say that it is entirely free of anomalies, too.
The original order of episodes eight and nine has, for reasons unknown, been reversed, leading to some minor discrepancies in the chronological sequence (in one episode we are informed that Thingumy and Bob have moved out of Moominhouse, and in the next they are still very much there).
Even worse, all the stills on the cover have been taken from episodes subsequent to those found on this DVD, which may lead to expressions of disappointment from any children looking forward to seeing on screen what they have seen on the cover. Perhaps it is a marketing ploy, designed to encourage parents to buy the next collection - if, indeed, there is a next one, given the DVD's (fallacious) claim to be "the complete series one" – but such cynicism sits rather uncomfortably with the more innocent values to be found within the show itself.
