New Tricks: Series 3

Behind The Scenes is a conventional Making Of featurette, with the usual talking heads, from a director (Rob Evans) to cameo performers (Gareth Hunt, Richard Briers, Steven Berkof, Frances Barber) to the good natured leads. What comes across is the feeling of a happy crew, enjoying the privilege of working together. Actors talk about their roles in certain episodes eloquently. Berkof is full of praise. “They have polished it to a fine art,” he says. “I am quite proud to be working in their presence.” Susan Jameson, who plays Alun Armstrong’s wife, admits with a smile that “I wouldn’t cope with him for more than five minutes” in real life.

No one has a bad word to say about the series and, when you watch it, you can see why.
