Eye For Film >> Movies >> Nymphomaniac (2013) DVD Review
Sensibly released as a double-disc DVD and Blu-ray by Artificial Eye, the difference between this and their previous release is that this is the full director's cut of both films, adding around 90 minutes of additional material - around 30 minutes to I and an hour to II. There are sexual additions but also quite a lot of dialogue and the end result is quite simply put more, in terms of emotion, viscerality and - with reference to self-administered abortion - it is considerably more provocative. Those who already invested in the previous edition may feel slightly aggrieved at not getting the full thing previously, but for fans, acquiring this definitive version is sure to be a must.
The extras are the same as with the previous release - still noticeable for the absence of von Trier - but well worth a watch and offer interesting perspectives from the actors. I couldn't help wishing that the studio had gone out on a bit of a limb here and included an interview with one of the porn actors. It would have been interesting to hear the flipside of what it was like to work this kind of 'cut in two' film set.
