Paprika

Paprika looks absolutely stunning on DVD. The picture quality is top notch. The surround sound mix (in both the original Japanese and dubbed into English) helps immerse you into the fantasy world. Subtitling is all present and correct throughout.

The commentary (in Japanese, but with English subtitles) is the only extra. It's interesting, and is a worthy inclusion, but it's not a patch on what could and should have been on the DVD.

The reason for Paprika's low DVD score is not because of what's here, but because of what's not here. I received an early review copy with four fantastic 'making of' documentaries. The documentaries on the computer graphics and the way the backgrounds were constructed helped build a greater understanding and appreciation of the film. The extras had something worth saying, and were highly enjoyable to watch. Come the final release of Paprika, they're just not there.

Paprika is more than worth the price of a DVD for the main feature alone, but one can only assume that the available extras are being held back for a two disc DVD set in future. Given the quality of these potential extras, you'd be better off waiting for the full release.
