Police Story: Lockdown

Police Story: Lockdown is a natural party film and the sort of thing you'll enjoy rewatching whenever you need a bit of action to liven up your evening. As with most of Jackie Chan's work, it has an enjoyable blooper reel over the end credits, and a similar approach is taken with the DVD extras, which are full of warmth and humour as well as showcasing some great action sequences.

First among them is a Making Of featurette which is essentially just an extended music video showcasing the mot entertaining moments from behind the scenes, slowing down in places to reveal how a particular shot was set up. There's also an energetic and somewhat misleading trailer. The real meat comes in the form of interviews with director Ding Sheng and stars Liu Ye, Jing Tian and Jackie Chan himself. Intercut with clips from the film, they each give very distinctive takes on what matters about it and what it was like to make. Each of the others pays affectionate tribute to Chan, who seems to have been everywhere at once on set, never letting the series he nurtured for decades slip too far from his control; Liu is clearly still reeling from being asked to punch him in the head harder in order to make it convincing. There are a lot of great stories here, and overall this is a package that fans will really enjoy.
