Eye For Film >> Movies >> Populaire (2012) DVD Review
The extras on the DVD release of Populaire may be frothy and brief, but they're also informative and fun. There are five featurettes, all running around the two to three-minute mark - To Begin With, The Love Story, The 50s, A Romantic And Sports Comedy and Typists Rule (though I prefer the French title of this one, Dactylo Rocks).
Director Régis Roinsard, his crew and stars all contribute, with Roinsard emphasising his love of the Fifties - and the trickiness of recreating it - and stressing the fact that he viewed this as much as a sports film as a romance.
The segment regarding the sourcing of the typewriters and restoration of them is fascinating and all too brief.
The disc also includes English for the hearing impaired and audio description for the visually impaired.
