There are no major issues with the quality of the DVD presentation of Ring 2 on Tartan Terror's Region 0 Pal DVD. The anamorphic widescreen picture is clean and well-defined, with solid, vibrant colours, while the 5.1 Dolby Digital sound helps deliver the shocks.

The only problem stems from the source print, with the subtitles sometimes being difficult to make out on light-coloured backgrounds.

As far as extras go, the star, director and writer filmographies are throwaway; the film notes from Tony Rayns adequate at best, and the gallery of Japanese Ring merchandise utterly pointless.

The UK and Japanese trailers for Ring and Ring 2, along with the Japanese trailer for the prequel, Ring 0, are slightly more interesting. Unfortunately, navigation on the trailers menu screen seems faulty. I was unable to play the trailers one after the other without being returned to the main menu whenever I attemped to select a second trailer to view.

The disc also includes trailers for Hard Boiled, Audition, In the Mood for Love and Nowhere to Run. Connected to the Ring movies only by a tenuous "Eastern Cinema" thread, one wonders if these were included primarily for the purpose of "fifteening" the film on DVD.

All in all, a good transfer - subtitling problem excepted - but unsatisfactory supplementary materials.
