Eye For Film >> Movies >> Risen (2010) DVD Review
The special features are disappointingly scant for a movie which was described as a labour of love for its director.
The four-and-a-half minute documentary reveals that the family were heavily involved in the making of the film, something that certainly shows in the finished article, which can sometimes approach a hagiography. Otherwise, it's a fairly bland piece which doesn't shed too much light, and started life as a puff piece on a BBC sports programme.
The deleted scenes are all very brief, totalling just a couple of minutes altogether, and one of them is not even in English (and features no subtitles). One of them is quite impressive from a physical point of view, featuring a man punching a punching bag. The sheer physicality of it shows the amount of training that actor Stuart Brennan put in to play Howard Winstone.
There is also a trailer, which makes the film look more action-packed than it actually is, and there is also a rather unremarkable music video of a song from the film's soundtrack.
