Sex And Fury

There can be absolutely no denying that the digital transfer does full justice to Norifumi Suzuki's exquisite imagery and lurid use of primary colours - but the extras on this disc from Fabulous Films' Pinky Violence Collection are far less impressive.

The original Japanese trailer (without subtitles), a gallery of 10stills from the film (in black and white, even though the film is in colour), the so-called 'original film posters' (although the plural is misleading, as there is only one poster presented here) - all these suggest a disc that has been carelessly thrown together.

Only the page-long bio on the film's star Reiko Ike represents any attempt to contextualise Sex and Fury within the Japanese seventies genres of sukeban (gangster boss woman) and pinku eiga ('pinky violence', ie sadistic, action-oriented softcore). What is sorely missed here is the full audio commentary and background featurette that were present and correct on Panik House's edition of the same film for the US market.
