Eye For Film >> Movies >> Shanghai Kiss (2007) DVD Review
The film is a labour of love, much like the DVD package, which is loaded with informative features that give you a real inside look into the film's production. From viewing the material, it’s clear that the filmmakers have wanted to make this for a long time.
The special features include To Shanghai and Back: An Interview With Cast and Crew, which is bog standard Behind The Scenes fluff, while The Making of Shanghai Kiss is a slightly bizarre compilation of on-set footage, edited together without any context and set to what sounds like department store music. The audio commentary, featuring the directors, is more interesting than most - they discuss the creative freedoms and financial limitations of making an independent film. A handful of deleted scenes and the trailer round out the package.
