Eye For Film >> Movies >> Sherrybaby (2005) DVD Review
The picture and sound are both fine, although this low-key indie film doesn't require anything too spectacular in either department.
The extras are thin on the ground - but those that are here are of a decent quality.
The 13-minute interview with Maggie Gyllenhaal proves how much the camera loves her, as she is shot as a 'talking head' against a white background. She is relaxed and expansive; thoughtful without being over the top. She reveals her preference for movies "where I'm in every minute" and talks about the experience of shooting the film. The interview is intercut with scenes from the film that have been sensibly chosen to illustrate the aspects she is discussing.
Danny Trejo's seven-minute interview also reveals him to be refreshingly candid. He talks about being initially scared of playing the 'good guy' and explains how his own life has mirrored parts of the film.
Rounding out the package is the obligatory trailer and a text Q&A of 11 questions with director Laurie Collver. It's a shame they couldn't have managed to catch her on camera, too.
