Eye For Film >> Movies >> Skare (2007) DVD Review
The menu screen is, appropriately enough, an illustration of slabs of meat hung up in a freezer – each slab contains menu options. The ‘Prime Cut’ is the main feature, ‘Choice Cuts’ reveals a scene selection option and ‘Off Cuts’ presents a filling selection of tasty special features.
Included is a making of feature, in which Murphy and his cast discuss the films origins and the shooting process. The director goes into details about his original, now sadly lost version of Skare (thanks, Parcel Force) and his decision to remake it.
The scripts of both versions of Skare (the lost 2001 version and this, 2007 version), plus the short story they are based on are also included as bonus features. Commentary by director Murphy and star Judith Holding provides an in-depth discussion on the film – with both commentators proving most candid and amiable and discussing the merits and pitfalls of low budget filmmaking.
The extras are rounded off with a photo gallery containing images from both versions of the film and a trailer.
