Eye For Film >> Movies >> Speed Sisters (2014) DVD Review
This exuberant low budget documentary far exceeded expectations on the festival circuit and has since enjoyed a brief cinema release. Now available on DVD, it's a great choice for motor racing fans and car geeks everywhere, as well as for people with an interest in Palestine. It's accompanied here by he trailer and by a Q&A recorded at a preview on International Women's Day, with director Amber Fares and race team Maysoon Jayyusi. They discuss the making of the film, Amber's shock at some of the things she encountered on the border with Israel, and what has happened to the film's various participants since, some of which is quite inspiring. The mood is very positive and capture some of the film's passion, and there's a sweet moment when a fan talks about what watching the races has meant to him. Maysoon also discusses the messages she receives from young Palestinian girls who are dreaming of motor racing careers, and her own dream of setting up a centre where any girl or woman can give racing a go.
