Well, it's not a half-bad package. Each episode comes with a commentary tape, in which we learn such things as how many extras are computer-cloned to make a crowd scene and how many times one room can be re-dressed to make it look like a remarkably similar room. Also interesting are the insights into why certain scenes play as they do - director Martin Wood is refreshingly honest in holding his hands up and saying: 'Didn't work, sorry!' And it's truly touching how excited two men can get over 10 flickering monitors in a background shot.
Also included are a couple of hit-and-run tie-in shorts from directors Wood and Peter De Luise, shot while they were making the episodes here, giving further insight into the production and showing Amanda Tapping to be as adorable as she is gorgeous.
The other extras are more disposable - a stills gallery, trailers for the next DVD set and a film that must last all of 12 seconds, which boils down to 'Hey, we have a website'. But never mind, the commentaries are what matter and they're fun and informative.
The DVD is easy to navigate, with a well-designed menu and nice sound effects - like Stargate S.G.1, they're not amazingly innovative, but pleasantly efficient and occasionally very good indeed.
