The 51st State

Apart from a couple of almost unnoticeable scratches, the print is superb. The sound is wonderful, as one would expect from a recent film, with the gunshots and explosions really benefiting from the surround sound. The subtitles are flawless, although only available in English.

There is an inexcusable amount of repetition between the Making Of documentary and the interviews, especially considering how short each are. The photo gallery is just a photo gallery, the trailer just a trailer.

The production featurettes are a little better. These are four short films of the cast joking around behind the scenes. They are too short and not funny enough to stand up as the best extra, but had they been a minor part of a fuller disc, they would have been a nice touch. In a similar vein, the overall design of the disc and its animated menus stand out as being of the highest class, although obviously not a selling point.

The commentary from writer Stel Pavlou and producer Mark Aldridge amounts to a couple of friends having a chat and a laugh about something they did. It never really interests, but then again it never really bores, either - a statement that could apply to all the extras.
