The Cremator

The enhanced 1.66 wide screen does a good job of making a very distinct film look as good as possible, although the screen does sometimes have elements of "grit". The sound is good and the subtitles are easy to read.

The extras aren't much, but they are interesting. A 15-minute introduction by filmmakers the Quay brothers explains their love of the film and why they believe it to be a neglected classic of genre cinema.

The real gem, however, if this counts as an extra, is the booklet by Daniel Bird, which contains all you need to know about writer/director Juraj Herz and the film, with fascinating articles about influences on the film and Herz's early career.

Ultimately, this is a satisfying package for an unjustly unknown film.
