The extras on this Disney DVD release are limited but perfectly formed. The picture and sound are beautifully rendered an there is full subtitling, subtitling for hearing impaired and an English audio descriptive track.

The Lake Natron Diaries, split into five parts, feature documentarians Matthew Aeberhard, Leander Ward and Melanie Finn, along with composer Jason Swinscoe and several other contributors. Each segment sees the filmmakers talk about a different aspect of the shoot accompanied by some excellent making of footage and clips from the film.

Having spoken to Aeberhard, Ward and Finn I can confirm that their testimony about working at Natron is both infectious and addictive and the snippets of interview here are further evidence of that, as they talk about what Natron means to them, the difficulties of shooting and the beauty of the natural environment.

Sadly all of the pieces here are only between three and five minutes long when a longer documentary style piece on the Making Of would have been most welcome. Still, they certainly leave you wanting more and, if you catch the bug for more footage of these beautiful birds, you can always watch the main feature again.
