The Fifth Commandment

Read James Benefield's film review of The Fifth CommandmentThere are three special features: two making ofs and a theatrical trailer of the film.
In the making ofs, Rick Yune and the stunt co-ordinators explain their vision. In fact that’s it, really; it’s just people talking, at some length, about the film, interspersed with clips.
Yune comes across as so likeable, open and honest, I feel bad for criticising his movie. His honesty is a little too disarming; turns out he wrote the script himself because he couldn’t afford a writer, he couldn’t get the director he wanted, he was working with people with little experience and there seemed to be financial problems throughout the film’s production.
Both featurettes are pretty detailed and informative and, at times, does feel like they are about another, better film. The first one is almost director’s commentary-like in its intimacy. He talks about his movie loves and inspirations, and it seems like his biggest influence for this movie was, bizarrely, Rambo.
The second, which is more about the stunts, is similarly entertaining, with two very lively, enthusiastic stunt people. If only bigger blockbuster films approached their DVD extras with such candour and simplicity.
The menus are also surprisingly funky. Again, it feels like they should belong to a better film. The trailer is fairly bog standard, but a worthwhile addition nevertheless.
