Eye For Film >> Movies >> The Hidden Blade (2004) DVD Review
The picture is given the standard 16:9 anamorphic presentation, which leaves it with a sharp image that is impressive in both interior and exterior scenes. The subtitles are rather individual and complement the picture's tone well, appearing in a bold white font. The colouring is predominantly naturalistic, which suits the format. It leaves very little grain that ultimately results in an image, which is visually pleasing. Isao Tomita's score is given an appropriate level of dominance, as the 5.1 Dolby Surround showcases the orchestral work in good fashion.
The extras are somewhat limited, which is understandable, considering there is set to be a special three disc collectors edition released soon. We are treated to the usual trailers, along with a documentary on the film's production, coupled by an interview with director Yoji Yamada.
Nothing spectacular, but nothing particularly disappointing.
The extras also include a showcase of other Tartan Video releases.
