Eye For Film >> Movies >> The Hunger: Season 1 (1997) DVD Review
The DVD extras are fairly minimal. Each of the four discs contains a synopsis of the episodes and on disc 4 there's also a half hour documentary, The Making Of The Hunger: The Hunger Inside. Although this serves the main purpose of promoting Season 2, it does so in a way that's informative, interesting and entertaining. The comment that the pilot episode in Season 2 had the highest budget, as it was a showcase for critics and buyers, went some way to explain the disparate production values in Season 1, which featured two, or maybe three, expensive looking stories, and 20 pieces of cheap tat, visibly struggling to make ends meet. Season 2 looks slicker, glossier and in all ways better than its predecessor, although some of the same ideas are revisited and they're still hiring a costume designer who orders everything from Eighties R Us. This little documentary fulfils its remit admirably, as having been slightly bored by Season 1, I eagerly anticipate borrowing the sequel from somebody else.
