Eye For Film >> Movies >> The Neon Demon (2016) DVD Review
A film which fans will want to watch again and again is accompanied here by a number of enjoyable extras. First up is a piece about the music, looking at how it developed and how it shapes our interpretation of the story, and situating it within the context of Refn's wider work, looking at how music has increasingly taken centre stage - indeed, there are parts of The Neon Demon that will make a lot more sense to you if you're familiar with dance as a narrative medium. There are also intercut interviews with Refn and Fanning, perfectly balanced as the former makes sharp observations and the latter bubbles over with the kind of charm any casting director would swoon at, a true rarity in being a former child star whose enthusiasm for her work remains undimmed.
There are some striking stills captured in the gallery, including behind the scenes shots as well as some of the strongest images from the film. And then there's the trailer, which is a work of art in itself and one of the best of the year. Though constructed from material taken from throughout the film, it gives nothing away, and it perfectly captures both the look and the spirit of the work.
