Eye For Film >> Movies >> The Other (1972) DVD Review
Another near-forgotten piece of Seventies horror is dusted off and raised from the crypt, and, as is often the case, the DVD is pretty average.
The Other is a supernatural thriller, directed by Robert Mulligan (To Kill A Mockingbird), which looks more like a Seventies TV show, and the picture quality is pretty much the same. The transfer is decent with very few defects, but this just means that the source print has been faithfully reproduced - all its grubby bits and scratches are clear.
The extras are distinctly average: the spooky trailer and a gallery of foyer cards are entirely unexciting, especially after you've seen the film. The shooting script and music cue sheet sounds quite interesting, but once you look at the low quality black-and-white scans of murky photocopies - assuming you have a PC to view them on - you realise there is almost no point to their inclusion.
If you have a burning passion to see The Other, then this DVD will suffice, as the sound and picture quality are perfectly adequate, but there's nothing to recommend it above this.
