Eye For Film >> Movies >> The Sentinel (2006) DVD Review
The picture quality is as excellent as one would expect from a recent film. The audio quality is perfectly clear, but fails to use the rear speakers to any great effect. It doesn't harm the viewing experience, but it is a missed opportunity.
Subtitling is all present and correct. In addition, there is a descriptive commentary track for blind, or partially sighted, film fans. Although not everyone will use it, it's a nice touch.
Unfortunately, the descriptive commentary comes close to being the highlight of the extras. Clark Johnson and George Nolfi's commentary is tepid at best. I'd always enjoyed Johnson's acting in Homicide: Life On The Street, and was looking forward to hearing some of his thoughts on filmmaking. Sadly, this is instantly forgettable.
The featurettes are a couple of brief interviews with some of the stars and former Secret Service agents. Apparently, Eva Longoria is good at shooting a gun and Secret Service agents are brave. It might be possible to turn a blind eye to those two facts being padded out to make one featurette, but two is pushing it.
The deleted scenes aren't anything special either. They don't provide any further depth to the plot, or characters. All very disappointing.
Not one of the extras makes it worth popping the DVD into your player, unless you happen to be a blind person with a penchant for flimsy thrillers. The extras have been put together for the sake of making extras, rather than because anyone had anything worthwhile to say.
