Tartan take trouble over the quality of print and sound with The Bergman Collection of DVDs, but offer few extras. This is often the case with older films, although DVD compilers will probably argue that this is because, unlike today, stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor often ended up in the cutting room bin.

Filmographies are minimal, giving the barest facts. Ronald Bergan's Film Notes are not an excuse for a review. It is a written piece, as most of the extras are, but tends to repeat what the director has stated in the section of autobiography used as Bergman on The Seventh Seal. This last extra comprises of sixteen pages of text, taken from My Life In Film, published by Bloomsbury, which is fascinating because he writes so clearly.
