The picture and sound quality are excellent, as you would expect from such a recent production. The surround sound mix isn't overly showy, but it does frequently boost the atmosphere in the outdoor scenes.

The only extra is a set of interviews with the cast and crew. They weigh in at around 45 minutes, and are worth a look. The series is slightly different to the norm, so the insights and comments from those involved are of interest.

I didn't think much of Jonathan Rhys Myers after having watched the episodes, and I'm afraid his interview merely cemented my prejudice. Imagine something along the lines of “Here's noted historian Robbie Williams telling you what he thinks of Henry VIII, and he's wearing a vest.” I'm sure he's a thoroughly bloody nice bloke really, but what a dreadful, dreadful interview.

That aside, the overall DVD package feels very light. It's a lavish period drama, so something more than just a few interviews could easily have been cobbled together. Like the show itself, it's a missed opportunity.
