Read Nicola Osborne's film review of The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg

This is a beautiful-looking film with sharp sound and picture, thanks to the fact that it has been transferred from a print extensively restored in 1992. The extras are a little weak, but, at least, attractively presented. The scene access is especially impressive with longish clips of the film used to animate each scene, making it easier to work out which bit you were watching when you were so rudely interrupted by the doorbell! The photo gallery runs to the poster and two stills, both of Deneuve, which, as lovely as she is, barely seems enough to have bothered with.

The biographies are lists of the films of Deneuve, Demy and Legrand, informative only in the minimum, but interesting, particularly in Legrand's case, since his CV is so mixed.

There could have been a lot more on here, but the film is great and the quality of print convincing enough that the disc is still a decent buy.
