This dual format release from Eureka's Masters of Cinema features a new high-definition presentation that is so crisp and clear it makes the film look as though it was made yesterday.

It is accompanied by an excellent long-form essay on the film by critic Michael Brooke, setting it in context and asserting its continued relevance to the modern world. The film booklet also features a lengthy interview between director Sydney Pollack and John Boorman, which goes into the detail of Pollack's technique when directing actors. "The thing I always look for is more fear," he says. "I don't think anyone is ever scared enough in movies."

The film itself is accompanied by a fascinating 22-minute video interview with film historian Sheldon Hall, offering additional context and a 60-minute episode of US TV documentary series The Directors. Shot in 2000 it covers virtually the whole of Pollack's career and sees him talk extensively about films including Three Days Of The Condor, Out Of Africa and Tootsie, with additional anecdotes ffrom the likes of Meryl Streep and Cliff Robertson. Surprisingly thorough for something that was made for TV, Pollack is also refreshingly honest about his films and the achievements and short-comings. It's likely to inspire you to want to view more of Pollack's back catalogue. The original theatrical trailer completes the disc, with all the material featuring optional HoH subtitles.
