The best element of the DVD/Blu-ray extras for the Studiocanal Jacques Becker Classics are the interviews with his son Jean Becker here and, in particular, as an extra on Le Trou. Who better to offer insight on his dad and his way of working, not least because he also acted as assistant director on both projects?

Given how small her role is in the film, it's a surprise to find an extra with Jeanne Moreau (Josy) here, but it's a hoot. Shot in 1957, it's one of those 'staged interview' affairs, in which we see her 'dashing out' of her house to shoot Gros Plan for TV and then relaxing off-set on a sun lounger while offering insights into her career. It only offers brief discussion of Grisbi but as a snapshot of Moreau it's fun.

The extras are rounded out with an interview with film scholar Ginette Vincendau, who also offers introductions to the other Becker releases - Casque d'Or, Le Trou and Edward and Caroline.

This release, like the others, looks impeccable and benefits from excellent subtitling.
