Eye For Film >> Movies >> V For Vendetta (2005) DVD Review
The sound and picture on this disc are pretty much p for perfect. It's a shame there is no commentary track but the extra Freedom! Forever: Making of V For Vendetta is considerably more informative than most of its ilk. The director, cast and crew talk about the making of the film in a pacey 15 minutes. Their comments are intercut with images from the set, the final film and stills from the original comic book. Often, making of documentaries can descend into a cast love-in but here they keep their minds on the political implications of the film in today's post 9/11 climate. Conspicuous by their absence, however, are the Wachowski brothers - presumably they feel their work can speak for itself.
This is a review of the standard single-disc issue of V For Vendetta - fans may wish to seek out the recently deleted (as of August) special edition which features the following additional extras: Designing The Near Future - a look at the artistic process of creating the world of V; Remember Remember: Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot - the history of Guy Fawkes; England Prevails: V for Vendetta and the New Wave in Comics - the origins of the original V story; Cat Power montage - Cat Power song under images of the film; trailer.
