Eye For Film >> Movies >> Vacancy (2007) DVD Review
Ah, this is the type of extras package I like - not too big, not too boring.
Firstly, there's an alternate opening sequence and boy, am I pleased they never bothered printing that - it wouldn't have spoiled the whole film, but it would have dampened down the tension considerably.
Then there's Checking In - The Cast and Crew of Vacancy, which does what it says on the screen, talks to folk involved with the film, throwing light on the genesis of the story, filming process and giving us tales from the set. Nothing extraordinary emerges, but everyone involved seems to have got on jolly well.
Mason's Video Pics is nasty stuff - extended versions of the mini snuff movies glimpsed in the film. If you like lots of screaming and violence, this is all your Christmases rolled into one.
Finally, there's Racoon Encounter, an extended scene from the film which is amusing, but not life changing.
Two of the more impressive aspects of Vacancy are Picture Mill's title sequence (someone's a student of the great Saul Bass, it seems) and the music by Paul Haslinger; it would have been great to learn how these were put together, but you can't have everything. As it is, this is a nice bijou package.
