Boston Motion Picture Awards calls for entries

BMPA pledge continued commitment to up-and-coming independent film-makers

by Amber Wilkinson

The Boston Motion Picture Awards has called for entries in its Motion Picture Features and Motion Picture Shorts categories.

The BMPA's aims to provide up-and-coming filmmakers with valuable resources for current and future productions.

This year's prizes include money for future work; Final Draft screenwriting software, web pages dedicated to winning films, reviews of winning films for press kits, posters and DVD packaging; personal finance guides; six-month subscriptions to Macworld Magazine; personalized trophies and awards certificates, and exposure through the BMPA web site and BMPA press releases.

Last year's BMPA winners went on to have their films screened at festivals around the globe, including the prestigious Ann Arbor Film Festival (USA), the Moondance Film Festival (USA), the Tribeca Underground Film Festival (USA), the Melbourne International Animation Festival (Australia), and Le Festival du Film du Strasbourg-Palmarés (France).

Last year's winner in the Motion Picture Shorts category, Hari Das, said: "The BMPA has put together an awards package that helps both the novice and experienced filmmakers. This is because their awards focus on what filmmakers really want and need.

"BMPA both energizes and equips you to make new films while their friendly, supportive people make you want to have a lasting relationship with the agency."

Applications for entry are being accepted before the end of October 2005, with entry fees subject to individual deadlines and categories. The BMPA's also offer student rates.

This year's BMPA judges include actor/filmmaker Sayed Badreya (The Insider, Independence Day, Stuck On You); filmmaker Hesham Issawi, whose recent film T For Terrorist features Tony Shalhoub (Monk, Men In Black), and Hari Das, whose film The Photo won last year's 1st Place Winner in the BMPA category of "Motion Picture Shorts."
