Silence Celebrated

Glasgow Film Theatre to showcase silent film.

by Amber Wilkinson

A history of music used in silent movies is expected to be the highlight of a weekend-long festival of films, taking place in Glasgow.

Composer, Neil Brand - who has been accompanying silent film for more than 17 years - presents Where Does The Music Come From, covering the techniques involved. He speaks on November 20, as the weekend - featuring the likes of Buster Keaton's The General - reaches its climax.

The festival also celebrates the 80th anniversary of Battleship Potemkin, by Sergei Eisenstein, and gives a rare screening of Swedish horror/documentary Haxan.

All screenings are at Glasgow Film Theatre. Tickets are available now, via the box office - telephone: 0141 332 8128.
