Channel 4 launch teenager competition

Broadcaster hooks up with NSPCC to offer nationwide film-making award

by Amber Wilkinson

Channel 4's Ideasfactory and the NSPCC have launched Raw Cuts, a nationwide filmmaking competition for 13 to 18 year olds.

It is an opportunity for young people to express themselves and potentially realise a dream or even launch a career as a writer/filmmaker.

They want entrants to tell them their story on the theme of Vulnerability - stories of a time in theylife when you have felt most alone, most upset, most confused, most angry or most sad.

Channel 4 said: "We're not looking for you to come up with the next big Hollywood blockbuster - we just want your story in words [between 350 and 500 of them] and if yours is selected, you'll be invited to work with us to make that story come alive for the screen."

The prize winners will have the opportunity to attend filmmaking workshops and even see their short film broadcast on Channel 4 in a prime-time slot.

The closing date for applications is Friday 6th January 2006.

Everything you need to know about the competition, including online entry forms, guidelines and information about short films, can be found at www.channel4.com/rawcuts
