MGM in wheel deal

Studio acquires distribution rights to Flying Scotsman.

by Amber Wilkinson

MGM has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to The Flying Scotsman from ContentFilm.

The Scottish cycling biopic, starring Jonny Lee Miller and directed by Douglas Mackinnon tells the tale of record-breaker Graeme Obree's triumph over adversity. The acquisition by MGM is the most recent example of the Studio’s strategy to acquire quality filmed entertainment product from third party entities.

ContentFilm International managing director Jamie Carmichael said: "The Flying Scotsman is a real crowd-pleaser with a cracking story of determination, and we’re very excited and flattered that MGM shares our vision for this inherently commercial film."

The Flying Scotsman served as the opening night film at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival and was recently lauded by participants at the American Film Market in Santa Monica. MGM will release the film theatrically in North America on December 29.
